{"id":3064,"date":"2023-10-16T00:45:32","date_gmt":"2023-10-15T16:45:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.walsnet.org\/?p=3064"},"modified":"2023-10-16T00:45:32","modified_gmt":"2023-10-15T16:45:32","slug":"newsletter-october-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/morphmatters.com\/wals-theme-2\/newsletter-october-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Newsletter | October 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear WALS Member,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Exciting plans are unfolding for the November 27-29 WALS Conference in Zwolle, Netherlands!\u00a0 In addition to powerful <a href=\"https:\/\/morphmatters.com\/wals-theme-2\/2023\/keynote-speakers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">keynotes<\/a> each day, we look forward to <a href=\"https:\/\/morphmatters.com\/wals-theme-2\/2023\/spotlight-sessions-detailshttps:\/\/www.walsnet.org\/2023\/spotlight-sessions-details\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spotlight sessions<\/a> every day, where you can hear about:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Lesson Study in Initial Teacher Education, from authors of a new WALS-Routledge book<\/li><li>How lesson study protects democracy and supports post-pandemic recovery, through its focus on listening and school vision<\/li><li>Qualitative analysis of teachers\u2019 talk during lesson study<\/li><li>Findings from WALS early-career researchers<\/li><li>The Teacher Leader as lesson study champion<\/li><li>Highlights in Dutch\/Flanders research<\/li><li>Lesson study research in Kazakhstan<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the new editors of the <em>International Journal of Lesson and Learning Studies, <\/em>Sharon Dotger and Sui Lin Goei, will conduct two sessions to hear from the WALS community and support successful submissions by WALS community members, including first-time authors. The two sessions are offered on&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Monday November 27, 14.00-15.30, and&nbsp;<\/li><li>Wednesday November 29, 14.00-15.30.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Any WALS attendee who is interested in either of these activities is welcome to attend. Editors will highlight the required elements for a manuscript submission, summarize the review process, and answer questions from participants. The Ph.D.\/Early Career Researchers Day (November 26)&nbsp; provides a chance for graduate students and early career researchers to engage in presentations, workshops and networking with senior scholars; it is free after conference registration.&nbsp; School visits (November 30) will highlight Netherlands\u2019 powerful systems of vocational education and training.&nbsp; Due to popular demand, new slots for the school visit to Kampus and conference dinner have recently been added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And don\u2019t forget to set aside time to explore the cultural and historical riches of <a href=\"https:\/\/morphmatters.com\/wals-theme-2\/2023\/activities-in-zwolle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Zwolle<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are still places available for Sunday 26th November and Thursday 30th November to visit the estate \u2018De Vlaminkchorst\u2019 of Lesson Study NL founder Dr. Nellie Verhoef.
